Your discharge

Going home

We will advise you of your discharge the night before to the greatest extent possible, and you must leave your room before 11:00 a.m. the next morning. A chart in your room will indicate your planned discharge time.

If you are advised of your discharge on the same day, you must leave within two hours or within a timeframe based on your doctor's advice. It is best to plan your departure with your family members and have someone accompany you.

A member of the care team will talk to you about the medication you need to take and how you can get a follow-up appointment, if required.

When you leave, please ensure that you take all of your personal effects with you, including any belongings that you may have stored in the safe.

If you requested and stayed in a private or semi-private room, you must go to the Accounting Department (located on the first floor of the Paul P. David Pavilion, Room C-1970) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

If you leave the MHI after these hours, the Accounting Department will contact you.

Return to another hospital centre or convalescent home

If you are returning to another hospital centre or are being transferred to a convalescent home, the nurse will give you the date and time of your transfer and will inform you about your transportation. Any relevant documents about your hospitalization at the MHI will be sent to your new care team.
