Users' Committee

The Users' Committee is made up of 7 people who are elected by all of the institution's users. This committee was struck in accordance with An Act respecting health services and social services and has been active since June 2006. The members meet on a regular basis to fulfill their mandate.

Users are this committee's reason for being. The services of the Users' Committee are both free and confidential.

Committee roles
  • Listen to and gather your ideas, suggestions and comments.
  • Inform you about your rights and responsibilities.
  • If required, provide assistance to anyone wishing to obtain care, a service or an answer to questions from a person of authority.
  • If required, assist you in lodging a complaint with the Local Service Quality and Complaints Commissioner.
  • Represent you on committees.
  • Communicate your observations to the person responsible for the quality of a particular service.
  • Ensure that users actively participate in evaluating their satisfaction with the services provided.
Users have a right to
  • Information.
  • Services provided at the MHI.
  • Their choice of professional and institution.
  • Care that is applicable to their health condition.
  • Consent to or refuse care.
  • Participate in decisions about their health.
  • Support, assistance and representation.
  • Housing services.
  • Access their medical record and have this information remain confidential.
Users are responsible for
  • Communicating openly and honestly with care staff.
  • Providing any necessary information.
  • Asking relevant questions and requesting clarification.
  • Cooperating in the delivery of services.
  • Taking steps to obtain any information and documentation about their records.
  • Cooperating in the delivery of medical treatment.
  • Paying certain fees.
  • Using services soundly and expressing their needs.
  • Respecting the people around them and the institution's rules.
  • Communicating any dissatisfaction to the appropriate staff person and, if applicable, participating in the complaint process.
