Montreal, October 7, 2014 – On October 6, as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Montreal Heart Institute unveiled The Connection – We need each other – L’un pour l’autre, sculpture created and donated by Dr. Harry Rosen. The unveiling took place in the presence of Hélène David, Minister of Culture and Communications and Minister responsible for the Protection and Promotion of the French Language, MNA for Outremont and daughter of Dr. Paul David, founder of the Montreal Heart Institute.

The bronze piece, placed in front of the Montreal Heart Institute Research Centre, bears witness to the Institute’s connection with the community and openness to the world. It represents two figures raising a fist in victory with their other arms joined together in support of one another.

“What a pleasure it is for me to be back at the Montreal Heart Institute, which today is seeing its surroundings enhanced by this magnificent bronze sculpture! It tells us all an inspiring story that reflects Dr. Rosen’s values of dedication, mutual aid, perseverance and self-realization. My father would have been proud of this beautiful acquisition to highlight the 60th anniversary of the establishment he founded, which he deeply loved,” said Ms. David.

“Just like Dr. Rosen, whose scientific knowledge is at the service of his artistic talent, we recognize the powerful healing power of art,” stated Dr. Denis Roy, Executive Director of the Montreal Heart Institute.

Known for his larger-than-life figures, Dr. Harry Rosen has been passionate about stone sculpting for fifty years. He is both an artist and a scientist, recognized as one of Canada’s forerunners in prosthodontics and restorative dentistry. His sculptures are now an integral part of the Montreal cityscape.
