Chief, Interventional Cardiology and Hemodynamics Service Director, Optical Coherence Tomography Laboratory Co-Director, Quantitative Coronary Angiography Laboratory Associate Professor at Université de Montréal
Dr. L. L'Allier received his medical degree from the Université de Sherbrooke in 1992. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS) in 1996 and received specialty certification in this field from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and from the province of Quebec in the same year. He continued his cardiology training at Université de Montréal and received specialty certification in this discipline from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and from the province of Quebec in 1997. He then took a subspecialty in interventional cardiology and clinical research at the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) and the Cleveland Clinic until 2000. Since that time, he has practised medicine at the MHI in the Department of Medicine (Interventional Cardiology and Hemodynamics Service). He is currently an associate professor at Université de Montréal, and the majority of his clinical practice takes place at the Coronary Care Unit (of which he was chief from 2006-2010), the Cardiovascular Genetic Clinic and the Hemodynamics/Interventional Cardiology Laboratory, for which he has served as director since 2010 (specialization in complex angioplasty, percutaneous renal denervation and septal alcoholization for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy).
Furthermore, he actively participates in training residents and fellows in clinical and interventional cardiology and contributes to continuing medical education nationally and internationally as a guest speaker. Dr. L'Allier is also involved as the exam board vice-chair for specialty certification in adult cardiology for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
His research interests are mainly in the area of the progression/regression of atherosclerosis and plaque imaging, the treatment of acute coronary syndromes, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and percutaneous renal denervation. He acts as Canadian national coordinator for a number of large-scale international clinical studies and takes part in many other clinical studies as a member of their respective executive committees. Dr. L'Allier has published over 50 scientific articles and presented a number of abstracts at international conferences.
