Researchers

After studying in France, Dr. Thorin received post-doctoral training first at the University of Glasgow (Scotland) and then at the University of Vermont (USA). He was then recruited to the Department of Surgery at Université de Montréal by the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) in January 1996. In 2001, Dr. Thorin became director of cardiovascular pharmacology at Actelion Pharmaceuticals in Switzerland before coming back to the MHI in 2002 and restarting a research program in cardiovascular aging that combines both clinical studies and basic research. In 2004, Dr. Thorin was named #associate director for basic research# by Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif, Director of the Research Centre. Dr. Thorin conducts research to understand the mechanisms associated with age-related and premature vessel dysfunction in the presence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. He works with researchers in Canada, Europe and Japan. Dr. Thorin has published nearly 100 scientific articles, reviews and book chapters and supervises many students at the master's and doctoral level. All of his graduates hold positions in the pharmaceutical industry and academia.
