On Thursday Auguest 22nd, the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) inaugurated its brand new Philippa and Marvin Carsley Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Centre, in honour of the loyal donors. Their generous contribution will allow the MHI to operate this equipment, positioning our hospital as one of the leading cardiology centres specialized in cardiovascular imaging.
“Mr. and Mrs. Carsley are extraordinary partners of the Montreal Heart Institute,” declared Dr. Denis Roy, Executive Director of the MHI and host for the evening. “On behalf of myself and the members of our hospital team, I wish to sincerely thank them for their support and dedication. We are very fortunate to be able to rely on them.”
A member of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation’s Board of Directors since 2004, Mr. Carsley is a great friend of the MHI whose generosity has made several major projects possible. In particular, Mr. and Mrs. Carsley’s support helped to fund the Philippa and Marvin Carsley Cardiology Chair at Université de Montréal. Their donation made in honour of Dr. Lucien Campeau, who passed away in March 2010, also contributed to the construction of a leading-edge hybrid operating room in the MHI’s surgical suite.
MHI at the forefront
Thanks to these two great philanthropists, the MHI is making inroads in the promising field of using imaging to detect and treat cardiovascular diseases. At the new MHI Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Centre, researchers will be able to use ultra specialized imaging techniques to detect acute and chronic heart diseases early on with unprecedented accuracy.
The Centre’s Director, renowned physician Dr. Matthias Friedrich, who was also present for the inauguration, has developed several advanced analysis protocols, in particular to view acute inflammation of the heart, which has become one of the most common indications for cardiovascular magnetic resonance.
