The Montreal Heart Institute announced today an important advancement for its hospital cohort and biobank.

The Institute received a second $3 million donation from Mr. André Desmarais and Mrs. France Chrétien Desmarais. This new important donation will accelerate new patient recruitment, as well as ensure long-term follow-up for some 30,000 patients involved, making it one of the largest longitudinal hospital cohorts in the world. This will also serve to enrich the biobank, connected to the Montreal Heart Institute, of genetic material and blood samples.

The cohort will therefore be renamed the “André and France Desmarais Hospital Cohort of the Montreal Heart Institute”.

“The support of Mr. André Desmarais and Mrs. France Chrétien Desmarais has been continuous over the years through many forms. It is above all thanks to them that we were able to reach this level of excellence. With them, we will be able to take the next steps as a world-leading institute in research and save the lives of millions of patients suffering from serious cardiovascular diseases,” said Dr. Tardif.
