Izakaya Benefit Cocktail: Young professionals unite to

keep hearts beating

Montreal, October 9, 2014 –$80,000 were raised tonight thanks to the first ever Izakaya Cocktail to benefit the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation. Presented by BMO Capital Markets, this one-of-a-kind Japanese themed cocktail party was attended by more than 250 young professionals. The event took place at the Espace Réunion, completely transformed for the occasion. Red carpet, photo booth, Japanese appetizers, DJ and numerous door prizes were on the menu.

The Izakaya Benefit Cocktail is an initiative of the Emerging Leaders Committee of the MHIF, a group of young professional leaders working together to raise the profile of the Montreal Heart Institute, promote the prevention of cardiovascular diseases among young people, and raise funds for the Foundation.

When asked about this première event, Jean-Philippe Towner, member of the Emerging Leaders Committee and a Vice-President at BMO Capital Markets, said: “This is a unique opportunity to introduce the younger generation to philanthropy, while having fun and networking at the same time. Contrary to popular belief, more and more young people are being affected by cardiovascular disease, which remains the number-one killer worldwide. Hence the importance of supporting the Montreal Heart Institute and the healthcare professionals there who change people’s lives by helping them to live better and longer.”

Members of the Emerging Leaders Committe are: Marie-Christine Bergeron of Novacap, Christophe Bourque of Tandem Expansion Management, Marie-Pierre Côté of PepsiCo, Peter Guay of PWL Capital, Jean-François Guay of Bombardier, Christian Jacques of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin, Dr. Marc Jolicoeur of the Montreal Heart Institute, Paul-David Martin of ABP Group, Philippe Martin of Power Corporation et Jean-Philippe Towner of BMO Capital Markets.
