An international reputation for research

Through its Research Center, the Institute works closely with some of the world's most prestigious cardiology institutions, including Val d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, Spain; Baylor University in Houston, Texas, Duke University in Durham, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Syracuse University in Syracuse and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester in the U.S.; interventional cardiology departments in Lille and Neuilly-sur-Seine, the INSERM U533 Unit in Nantes, France; and University College in London, England. Since 1970, it has had a fruitful collaboration with the National Institutes of Health in the United States.

MHI researchers are very well represented at national and international conferences, an indication of the high esteem in which their North American and European counterparts hold them.

Between 1999 and 2002:

  • while the Canadian Cardiovascular Society accepted an average of 75% of all the abstracts submitted for its Annual Meeting, it accepted 83% of the abstracts from the MHI;
  • whereas the American College of Cardiology selected an average of 33% of all papers submitted for its Annual Meeting, it selected 61% of the papers from the MHI;
  • although the American Heart Association selected an average of 30% of all papers submitted, it selected 58% of the papers from the MHI;
  • despite the fact that the European Society of Cardiology selected 33% of all papers submitted in the years 1995-96 and 1996-97, it selected 67% of the papers from the MHI.
