CAPSANA

Capsana, previously known as ACTI-MENU, is a social enterprise owned by the HMR Foundation, the ÉPIC Foundation and the Fondation PSI (Prévention Santé Intégrale), which is associated with the Montreal Heart Institute.

Founded in 1988, Capsana is dedicated exclusively to the promotion of health and healthy lifestyles, as well as the prevention and management of chronic diseases. Its mission is to help individuals take an active role in their health.

Capsana provides the general public, organizations and their staff, as well as health care professionals and their patients with information, tools, and support that will encourage individuals to look after their own mental and psychological health and encourage the creation of social and physical environments that promote healthy behaviours. These programs address the following areas:

  • Promoting a healthy lifestyle (diet, physical activity, quitting smoking, weight control, appropriate use of medication, etc.)
  • Finding and maintaining psychological balance (stress management, preventing and dealing with violence and aggression, mental health, etc.)
  • Preventing and managing certain illnesses (heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, etc.)

Capsana’s multidisciplinary team is driven by the conviction that all people can have a significant influence on their health and quality of life by adopting preventive behaviours and making informed choices about lifestyle.

Quit to Win! Challenge

The Quit to Win! Challenge is a positive motivational campaign that encourages smokers to take the plunge and butt out! The Challenge encourages everyone to quit on their own terms so that they have a better chance of not smoking for the 6 weeks of the Challenge (March 1 to April 11). Since 2000, close to 380,000 people have participated in the Challenge. Of that number, according to various surveys carried out, on average 2 participants out of 3 successfully met the challenge of not smoking for 6 weeks. This is an excellent success rate for this type of campaign.

5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge

Every year since 2005, the 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge has invited Quebecers to get the support they need to take concrete action and find fun ways to improve their lifestyles. For 6 weeks, from March 1 to April 11, participants aim to eat better, move more and take care of themselves. Since its creation, the campaign has surpassed the million mark in registrations. With hundreds of workplaces encouraging people to take part every year, and hundreds of municipalities and local communities that have invited residents to get on board, the Health Challenge is the annual, one-of-a-kind movement for good health in Quebec!

Smoke-Free Family

The Smoke-Free Family awareness campaign educates the public about the health dangers of second-hand smoke, particularly for children. The Smoke-Free Family campaign is particularly relevant in Quebec, where 7% of children aged 11 years and under are regularly exposed to second-hand smoke—almost twice the amount for the rest of Canada (4%). Thanks to education and awareness activities, Smoke-Free Family invites all Quebeckers to protect children from exposure to second-hand smoke by saying to them, “Today, smoking happens outside!
