The Pharmacy Department
Members of the Pharmacy Department at the Montreal Heart Institute play a leading role in optimizing medication therapy for patients. The collaboration of MHI pharmacists with care units and various decision-making committees makes it possible to improve the quality of patient care. With their expertise and unique knowledge, MHI pharmacists are a highly valued resource for other health professionals at the MHI. Pharmacists are also increasingly involved in the ongoing training and education of their peers.
The MHI Pharmacy is a young and dynamic department composed of nine pharmacists aided by a dozen pharmacy technical assistants.
The medication distribution system is an automated unit-dose system that includes a complete IV admixture service (IVAS). MHI pharmacists deliver high-level care in the following areas:
- Surgical intensive care;
- Pre/post-surgery unit;
- Ambulatory care (antibiotic therapy at home, anticoagulant therapy, etc.);
