Providing Spiritual Support & Accompaniment


The mission of the pastoral service is to provide spiritual and sacramental support to the hospitalized patients and their families or significant others.

The pastoral agent is a member of the multidisciplinary team, and has the following responsibilities:

  • Visiting the patients and identifying their needs
  • Offering spiritual accompaniment and moral support to the patients, their families or their loved ones
  • Ensuring the availability of resources to meet the patients' religious needs, including the preparation and the reception of the sacraments or other religious acts
  • Taking part in the development, implementation and evaluation of the intervention plan, within the multidisciplinary team
  • Organizing or participating in pastoral activities
  • Collaborating on ethical questions
  • Ensuring the connection with various religious denominations
  • Ensuring pastoral service volunteers' activities, training and supervision
  • Providing on-call service for emergency needs
  • Contributing to the evaluation and the improvement of the quality of care and services
