Acti-Menu

The Acti-Menu  group has unparalleled expertise in primary prevention. All of the group's programs were developed by a scientific committee composed of the best experts in Quebec and Canada.

ACTI-MENU: Working with you to help you take charge of your health

ACTI-MENU is associated with the Centre for Preventive Medicine and Physical Activity of the Montreal Heart Institute. Its mission is to provide tools and activities to enable people to take charge of their physical and mental health. For nearly 20 years, a multidisciplinary team of health-care professionals (physicians, dietitians, nurses, psychologists, physical education instructors) and communications specialists have worked together to offer innovative health promotion programs for health-care providers and professionals and the general public, as well as in the workplace.

PUBLICATION FOR HEALTH-CARE PROFESSIONALS

ACTI-MENU has developed recognized expertise in producing publications on health and medical information for lay readers: prevention of chronic diseases (including cardiovascular diseases), some types of cancers, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc. These publications are distributed free of charge to health-care providers, and ACTI-MENU also offers training to help them help their patients adopt two habits that play a decisive role in health: physical activity and a nutritious diet.

  PUBLIC PROGRAMS

ACTI-MENU's public programs encourage people to take action for better health by adopting winning lifestyle habits: becoming more physically active, eating better and quitting smoking. Among ACTI-MENU's initiatives in this area, the best known are the Quit to Win! Challenge! and the Défi Santé 5/30.

For the past seven years, the Quit to Win! Challenge has invited smokers who want to quit to live without cigarettes for six weeks. This popular smoking cessation program is positive, dynamic and effective-and has one of the best success rates in the world. From 21% to 29% of participants are still non-smokers one year after completing the program. In this same area, ACTI-MENU is also behind Mission TNT, a project to prevent sixth graders from taking up smoking, which has been offered since 2001.

Launched in 2005, Défi Santé 5/30 encourages people of all ages to discover how enjoyable it is to become more active and eat better. By signing up for this event, which takes place across Quebec, participants set a goal to attain or maintain key health objectives: eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables and getting at least 30 minutes of exercise a minimum five days out of seven.

ACTI-MENU also contributed to developing Health Check, a food information program established by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, aimed at helping people make quick, healthy choices when grocery shopping. ACTI-MENU also provides consulting services to the Foundation on various technical questions such as developing and updating criteria and the process of product acceptance.

WORKPLACE PROGRAM

In response to skyrocketing health-care costs and absenteeism in the workplace, ACTI-MENU introduced the program Ma santé, je m'en occupe ! This program is aimed at motivating employees to take control of their health by adopting a healthier lifestyle. It raises awareness and provides each participant with ongoing support. Participating organizations benefit from the program in numerous ways: better atmosphere in the workplace, lower rates of absenteeism and concrete lifestyle changes.
