Abdominal or Pelvic CT Scan

Objectifs

An abdominal or pelvic CT scan uses a series of X-rays to diagnose pathologies in the abdomen and pelvis. This exam may also be used to detect some bone pathologies in this region.

Duration

5 minutes

Preparation
  • Patients may have to ingest a special liquid dye that makes the digestive system show up better on the images. This liquid has no particular taste.
  • On the day of the procedure, you should arrive one and a half hours before the appointment time. You will have to remove your clothing and your belly button piercing (if applicable) before putting on a hospital gown.
Steps

A medical imaging technologist will ask you to lie down on your back with your arms extended over your head. You will be given instructions about when to hold your breath as the images are acquired.

Follow-up and side effects

A radiologist will analyze the exam and send the report to your treating physician. There are no side effects.
