The members of the Pharmacy Department of the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) play a leading role in optimizing patients' medication therapy. Pharmacists' unique knowledge and expertise make them a remarkable resource for other health care professionals. They sit on a number of intrahospital and interhospital decision-making committees to improve the quality of patient care.
Pharmacists are also highly engaged in the continued education and training of interns, students, residents and other health care professionals.
MHI pharmacists provide high-level care in the following sectors:
Pharmacists actively participate in research, which is one of the MHI's primary missions.
For a number of years, they have helped develop new treatments that are now internationally recognized.
To support pharmacists in their clinical tasks, the MHI has looked to new technology and now has a robotic unit-dose medication dispensing system and provides a complete IV admixture service (IVAS).
The MHI pharmacy is a young and dynamic department made up of 11 pharmacists supported by an unparallelled team of approximately 20 senior pharmacy technical assistants as well as an administrative officer. The members of this incredible group support and help each other in their work. Each person in the Pharmacy Department has an important role to play, and it is important for all employees to be proud of their contribution.
