People & numbers

The Montreal Heart Institute, with its 151 beds, 8,000 annual admissions, 11,500 visits to the emergency room, 34,000 outpatient consultations, 4,500 of which are related to clinical research studies, 1,400 operations using extracorporeal circulation and 6,000 procedures in the hemodynamics laboratory, is an outstanding environment for various multidisciplinary research teams.

The Research Center has 19 teams working in basic research, 22 in clinical research and 8 in technological research, staffed by Master's, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students, clinical and research fellows, heath professionals, technicians, and administrative and clerical personnel.

Researchers can count on an extensive infrastructure and administrative support for the preparation of grant applications, manuscripts or presentations at scientific meetings. They have a digital angiography room and two rooms for sterile surgery. The Center's budget has grown to $20 million.

The pharmaceutical industry and other industrial partners, international, national and provincial grant agencies provide 85% of the funding. The Montreal Heart Institute Research Fund contributes to the remainder of the budget, giving priority to the funding of new researchers. The research teams work in a functional and attractive 6-floor building (7 300 m2) and have access to state-of-the-art technology.
