Medical Students

The Montreal Heart Institute offers optional clinical clerkships in cardiology, cardiac surgery and cardiac emergency care to medical students from the Université de Montréal. As a result of inter-university agreements, these clerkships are also offered to students from other Quebec universities. During the summer, positions not filled by students from Quebec are offered to out-of-country students in their final year of medical training.

Students are fully integrated into the clinical care teams; the rotations are aimed at familiarizing them with the principal problems encountered in clinical cardiology and cardiac surgery. They are expected to be present Monday to Friday from 8 h until 17 h and are also required to perform on-call duty one evening per week from 17 h to 23 h and one weekend day per period. These electives are not paid.

When a sufficient number of students are present, some 15 theoretical courses are given on various aspects of cardiology, cardiac surgery, nuclear cardiology and radiology.
