Women in support of progress

When the Grey Nuns met Dr. David, their order, which had been established in the eighteenth century, was endeavouring to build a hospital in Québec that would be second to none in quality and would offer specialized medical services.

Starting in the early 40s, the nuns had been gathering information from the best institutions in Canada and the U.S. When Dr. David told them about his project, he was addressing women who were familiar with the latest medical developments and who wanted their community to benefit from them.

Sister Rachel Tourigny, a Fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators, became the first administrator of the Institute, while Sister Lucille Ouellet dealt with setting up the premises and training the staff.
