Basic research

Basic research is essential to increase our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for heart disease, develop innovative treatments and improve prevention. It has grown to occupy an increasingly important place within the MHI's research activities in the last decade.

Topics of particular interest to MHI researchers include:

A microscope

Basic and cellular electrophysiology

acting more effectively to protect heart cells and identifying new anti-arrhythmia molecules;

Blood parts

understanding their major role in coronary disease, restenosis and myocardial damage;

Molecular biology

studying heart disease from a genetic point of view using cutting-edge technology;

Endothelial system

studying the role of the inner layer of the arteries and veins in controlling the operation of the endothelial system;

Myocardial protection

developing approaches to protect the heart against failure during surgery, etc.
