Cardiology
The Montreal Heart Institute offers clinical rotations to residents in the adult cardiology program at the Université de Montréal and to residents from other Quebec universities as a result of inter-university agreements. Quebec residents are required to apply for clinical rotations through the directors of their cardiology programs. The MHI also offers clinical cardiology training to out-of-country physicians already certified in internal medicine. This program is based on the criteria and standards established by the cardiology program at the Université de Montréal and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. During their training, candidates are expected to be available for on-call duty in general cardiology at the hospital.
Candidates accepted into this program will take all of their rotations at the MHI, with the exception of two months of consultations in general cardiology at one of Montreal's general hospitals and two months of pediatric cardiology at Hôpital Ste-Justine of Montreal. The clinical cardiology program is made up of 39 four-week periods divided as follows:

The three-year program begins on July 1. Applications for positions must be forwarded to the administrative office of the MHI teaching division a minimum of 18 months in advance. Interviews for selected candidates are carried out in May of the year before their admission to the program.
To obtain funding, candidates are advised to apply for grants from recognized agencies. The Department of medicine at the MHI offers scholarships; however, a limited number of scholarships are available and they are awarded on a competitive basis.
